On March 8, we celebrated International Women's Day. To follow up on this important day and continue to celebrate women, we're shining the spotlight on one of our employees who makes a positive difference at the dealership every day. It's an opportunity to celebrate her achievements, resilience and impact, while continuing to promote gender equality in the automotive industry and beyond. In that spirit, we're honored to introduce you to Sylvie Charbonneau, Sales Secretary at Ford Île-Perrot, who, through a short questionnaire, sheds light on her inspiring journey and unique perspectives.
1. What inspired you to pursue a career in the automotive industry?
In 2005, a combination of circumstances led me to start my career at Ford, not really knowing what to expect. 19 years later, I'm still here! My passion for cars has grown as my career has progressed.
2. How could women's representation in management and leadership positions benefit the automotive industry as a whole?
Women bring a different approach to the automotive business, as well as a certain balance. They bring a new perspective to events and situations. What's more, women are increasingly interested in cars! In fact, they use cars just as much as men, so why not? It's an interesting field!
3. Can you share a memorable success or achievement you've achieved in your career in the automotive industry?
I think the fact that I'm still with Ford after 19 years of service and that I feel very much appreciated by the team is a great source of pride for me. I feel accomplished and at home!
4. What advice would you give to young women aspiring to enter the automotive industry?
I believe that today, no matter what field you're interested in, there's a place for you. Trust yourself and take your place!
5. What changes or advances do you foresee in the future of the automotive industry, particularly as regards the role of women?
Women will continue to enter the field, and there will be even greater gender equality. More and more, women are working in the more typically male departments, like parts or the garage. It's refreshing and inspiring, I think!
